Motorcycle licence – class A

In Germany there are several licence classes for riding motorcycles. Here is an overview:

Class AM

• Vehicles: mopeds, scooters and light quads up to 45 km/h
• Engine size: max. 50 cc
• Minimum age: 15 years

Class A1

• Vehicles: light motorcycles up to 125 cc
• Power: max. 11 kW (15 hp)
• Minimum age: 16 years

Class A2

• Vehicles: mid-range motorcycles
• Power: max. 35 kW (48 hp)
• Minimum age: 18 years

Class A

• Vehicles: all motorcycles, unlimited power
• Minimum age: 20 (with 2 years of A2), 24 (direct entry)

Good to know

Do I need my own motorcycle gear?
No – we provide helmet, gloves, protective clothing and safety vests for your lessons. You only need your own boots!

When does practical training take place?
We train from March to November. Theory lessons continue through the winter months.

Tip for car drivers: With the B196 extension you can ride 125 cc motorcycles without an exam – ask us about it!
