Car licence – class B

The class B licence allows you to drive motor vehicles (except motorcycles) with a total weight of up to 3.5 t and up to 8 passenger seats.

There are currently several variants of class B:

B – manual transmission:
Training and exam take place in one of our modern manual cars. After passing the practical exam you may drive both manual and automatic vehicles, including with trailers.

B 197:
Part of the training is done in a manual car, including an internal gear-shifting competence check with your instructor. The rest of the training and the exam take place in an automatic car. You may then drive both types – only trailer journeys must be done with an automatic vehicle.

B – automatic (B78):
Training and exam in an automatic car. After the exam you may only drive automatic vehicles.

B96:
The popular “caravan extension”: after a one-day course you may drive car-and-trailer combinations up to a total weight of 4.25 t – no exam required.

BE:
Training and exam with a trailer. For the application you need a biometric passport photo, an eye test and proof of a first-aid course. After passing you may drive combinations up to 7 t (car 3.5 t + trailer 3.5 t).

Frequently asked questions

When can I register?
You can register from the age of 17.5. The theory exam is possible 3 months and the practical exam 1 month before your 18th birthday. For accompanied driving from 17 (BF17) you can start even earlier – register here.

Do you teach in English?
Yes! We regularly train students in English and support other languages with translation tools. The theory exam itself can be taken in 12 different languages, including English.
